The Lede: POTHOLE CLOSES LAWRENCE AVE
Sarah Collins at the Chicago AV Club brings pictures of the pothole that disrupted traffic in the neighborhood on Thursday the 10th. (Thanks for sharing Sarah) You can see, as crews dig out the hole, that they uncovered the old Chicago Surface Lines street car rails. Traffic on Lawrence was detoured in the area from Western Ave to Rockwell St. starting around 4:45 PM Thursday.
The Chicago Breaking News Site says the street collapse was due to a water main break.
THE CRIME REPORT from EveryBlock
A 35 year-old delivery man was arrested in the 2500 block of Belle Plaine on Wednesday the 9th. Police allege the man, Daniel Serafini, was delivering two pounds of crystal meth to a resident. The police also arrested Alfred Mortensen, 35, of the 2500 block of Belle Plaine on charges of possession of methamphetamine.

Gray Gary Fisher Wahoo bike stolen from Lincoln Square. Monday 8-9:30p. I saw a sketchy looking guy walking around: shorter, white guy with a short gray and greased ponytail, with a satchel … but I locked my bike up anyway… I know I’m a moron. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Found a zune on the street in Roscoe Village. If you can describe it with details I will return it to you immediately.
Some jerk stole my women’s schwinn landmark and my son’s schwinn hitchhiker on Friday 9-11-09 around 2:30pm. The bikes were locked in front of my house. I don’t think this ad will do any good, but if anyone sees someone riding these bike they’re MINE!!!!! (Pictures at website)
Keyes found- Wilson & Damen If you got home late last night or early this morning to find that you’d had a missed connection with your keys, I might be able to help you out.
There are three of them (and a gym membership card); one printed, one colored, and one for a bike lock. If you can describe the first two/give me the name of the type of bike lock you have, I’d be more than happy to get them back to you!
Bike tire stolen- Damen Brown Line CTA station Had my back tire stolen off my bike today from the bike loop outside the Damen Brown Line stop. In case anyone finds it rolling around town or whatever, it’s an Alexrims DA16 aluminum rim with kevlar tire and flip flop hub. Moral: If you only lock up one tire, make it the back one.

- The 16th Twins
- Company G, Berdan’s US Sharpshooters
- The 65th 2nd Scotch Regiment
- The 13th Fremont’s Rifles
- The 50th Blind Half-Hundred

The Nation’s Celery Capital
Here’s something to chew over, I found a second reference to this strange fact in the Mr. Brown Thumb blog on ChicagoNow. More recently, that would mean the mid-19th Century in this case, the nation’s celery capital moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. A celery blight in the 1930’s moved most cultivation to California.
Celery has been used in home remedies for ailments such as insomnia, arthritis, gout, anemia, Hodgkin’s disease, leukemia, asthma, bronchitis, tuberculosis and indigestion according to a blog out of Hawaii.
